Summary

The recent encyclical Caritas in veritate offers numerous themes to deepen especially from an educational viewpoint. The question of human rights and respect for duty is surely one of these educational themes. At the international level we are aware of the growing need for education to the meaning and respect for human rights, yet as the Holy Father reminds us, it is necessary to integrate education to the rights with that of responsibility if we want to see the desired fruits. The article presents the main outline of the social teachings of the Church on duties, correlated to human rights, and shows how the duties of the individual are codified in the international agreements on human rights.

La recente enciclica Caritas in veritate offre numerosi argomenti da approfondire anche in chiave educativa. Il tema dei diritti umani e dei rispettivi doveri è sicuramente uno di essi. A livello internazionale si avverte sempre di più l'esigenza dell'educazione ai diritti umani ma, come ricorda il Papa, perché essa possa portare i frutti desiderati è necessario che sia integrata dall'educazione ai doveri. L'articolo presenta a grandi linee la dottrina sociale della Chiesa sui doveri correlati ai diritti umani e rileva i doveri degli individui, codificati negli strumenti internazionali sui diritti umani.
