Beginning with the discourse that John Paul II had addressed to the Faculty, the article seeks to deepen the commission which the Pope had left to the professors: «to be faithful educators, both as university professors and Salesians.» The mission of the university is educational in nature because it sees to educate, as John Henry Newman stated, and thus implies intellectual action, formation of character, and thus is individual and permanent. The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, as Professors, are called to bring forth among those who attend the Faculty, a desire for research on the meaning of life, the greatest question facing all of us, disclosing the horizons of the transcendent. This means getting to know the human person in totality.

John Henry Newman - implica un’azione sulla nostra natura mentale e la formazione di un carattere, è qualcosa di individuale e permanente. Le Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, in quanto Docenti, sono chiamate a suscitare in coloro che frequentano l’università la tensione alla ricerca del significato dell’esistenza, che è la questione suprema, in modo da dischiudere gli orizzonti del trascendente. Si tratta di conoscere l’uomo nella sua totalità.
