Summary

Through a survey of some rabbinic sources, this essay offers an image of the fundamental role education plays in Jewish tradition. For Judaism, study allows not only for the inter-generational transmission of knowledge, but also for the ongoing formation and renewal of the humanity of its subjects. The responsibilities of those to whom the task of educating is entrusted are immense and is based it is based on a continuous listening ability and because educating is not filling a blank slate but lighting a fire. Jewish sources demonstrate great respect for teachers, whom they compare to parents, while expressing great care for the individuality of the student, compared to a child.

Riassunto

Attraverso una ricognizione di alcune fonti rabbiniche, questo saggio offre un’immagine del ruolo fondamentale che l’educazione assolve nella tradizione ebraica. Lo studio per l’ebraismo permette non solo la trasmissione intergenerazionale dei saperi, ma la continua formazione ed il rinnovamento dell’umanità dei suoi soggetti. Le responsabilità di coloro a cui è affidato il compito di educare sono immense, perché il compito che spetta agli educatori è arduo e si basa su una continua capacità di ascolto e perché educare non è riempire una tabula rasa ma accendere un fuoco. Le fonti ebraiche mostrano grande rispetto nei confronti della figura del maestro, paragonata a quella di un genitore, e allo stesso tempo esprimono intensa premura nei confronti dell’individualità dello studente, paragonato ad un figlio.

A través de un estudio de algunas fuentes rabínicas, el presente ensayo ofrece una imagen del papel dofundamental que la educación juega en la tradición judía. Para el judaísmo el estudio permite no sólo la transmisión intergeneracional de los saberes, sino la continua formación y renovación de la humanidad de sus sujetos. Las responsabilidades de aquellos que tienen la tarea de educar son inmensas se basa en una capacidad de escucha continua y porque educar no es llenar una pizarra en blanco sino encender un fuego. Las fuentes judías muestran grande respeto para los maestros, cuyas figuras son comparadas a las de los padres, y al mismo tiempo expresan una intensa preocupación por la individualidad del estudiante, comparado a un hijo.
